Deployment Diary: Week 5

This week started out a little rough. RC and I have had pretty constant communication since he left, but that stopped all of a sudden. Completely out of the blue. For 2 days I didn't hear from him and I was a little freaked out. I knew something was wrong. I soon found out that all soldiers in his region were put on a media blackout because two men, a specialist and a private, were killed. A number of other individuals were injured. With the way technology and Facebook is they are mandating blackouts so that families can be properly notified before someone senselessly posts something on Facebook.  

My heart aches for their families and instantly I was reminded how real this war is. 

The rest of my week was spent at work and continuing the CrossFit/functional fitness classes in the evening. I've developed some nice calluses, determined my baseline for weightlifting, and hopefully gained/toned some muscles! I also conquered round two against these gawd-awful walls and hung some curtains in our living room. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, a retelling of Cinderalla from one of the "ugly stepsisters", is my current read.

Also, here's a picture of one of the Daddy or Hero Dolls. You can place a picture under the plastic piece in front of his face. I'm not gonna lie, it's kind of creepy looking and the dudes got crazy hair. But these are a great tool to help kids deal with separation from their solider.. or errrr wives when there are extra Daddy Dolls left over. :)

What to Do When the Hubby's Away

I'm not going to lie I've been in a crummy mood the last week or so. Hence my reason for not blogging. But I've put my big girl panties on and trying to look at things in a more positive light. RC's away (booo!), but I've taken in upon myself to not mope around & have some fun!

So, what do when the hubby's away?

1. Order Chinese food one night
2. Go by Redbox and pick up some movies. Bridesmaids and Jane Eyre were my selections. 
3. Replenish your stash of reading material. Up next American Wife and The Glass Castle.
4. Get a haircut! :)
5. Go to a movie by yourself! This was a huge thing for me. I thought it would be all weird and I'd feel like a loser, but it totally wasn't! I actually really enjoyed myself. It was $1 popcorn and drink day so I went to a matinee showing of 'Whats Your Number?'. Really cute movie! And hello, Chris Evans! :) It was kind of nice just picking a movie and not having to worry if someone else would like it. So if there's a movie you really want to see don't wait around for someone else! I mean, it's not that weird to go to a movie by yourself... people go shopping by themselves all the time?

Anywho, I miss him and can't wait for him to get home! :)

Reading List

I haven't discussed our honeymoon plans yet, but RC and I will be traveling down to Florida to spend a week on a quiet little island. I am so looking forward to a week of relaxation on the beach and one-on-one time with my hubby-to-be! We've already talked about how most of our week will be spent lounging and reading on the beach.

I am so looking forward to being able to read for enjoyment. Post-graduation I know so many of evenings will be filled with me curling up on the couch with a book after work. So, between the honeymoon and transitioning to a little more free time (hello, weekends not spent studying) I've been racking my brain to compile a list of all the books I've been meaning to read.
